All right all you movie junkies listen up! Do you like movies? Do you like bad movies? How about weird movies? Do you like weird movies that are so bad they get you splitting at the sides? Well look no further because Basement Cinema is your on-campus one-stop movie spot that is sure to leave you with a sense that you have truly witnessed something spectacular. With genres ranging from drive-in horror, sexploitation, slasher, splatter, Japanese Sci-fi, comedy (that term is used loosely), and anything else Blockbuster took one look at, let lose a wild animal scream and immolated themselves a la “Family Guy,” all because they couldn’t believe such movies could actually exist. Seriously, you will never see movies like this anywhere except at the Basement Cinema.

Now if you are the kind of person who enjoys a good exploitation film, you’re thinking to yourself “why have I never heard of this hidden gem before?” Well, unless you’re a film student, and you spend every waking hour in the basement of Mitchell Hall, chances are you probably never saw the flyers. It all goes down every Wednesday in the cozy confines of the basement of Mitchell Hall (or “home” as some film students would refer to it) room B91 at 9:30 p.m. Don’t worry if you show up a few minutes late; just remember that you’ll be missing out on the outstanding previews shown before the main attraction. With Basement Cinema, you can get the true drive-in movie theater experience, minus the greasers and the socs, or all the sights and sounds of a Times Square movie theater back in the 1970s, minus the hookers and the perverts.

Sponsored by the Student Action Cinema Network, Basement Cinema was created as a way to introduce students and hardcore movie fans to examples of film that would not be your standard choice of everyday movie renting fare. It was also created as a good way to get a few laughs with your fellow students at the most preposterous of movies ever made.

If you love movies that are beyond the mainstream, or if you just want to watch something other than your usual platter of Owen Wilson, Tom Cruise, and Kirsten Dunst, or if you are just sitting in the dorms bored off your ass on a Wednesday evening, stop on down to Mitchell Hall’s B91 at 9:30 p.m. and watch some truly “so bad its good” films.  And remember, if Quentin Tarantino could find inspiration in these movies, you might get inspired too.
