The Daily Northwestern, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

The tour began a few minutes after noon yesterday. After introducing themselves - name, home state, likely major - the prospective students and their parents began walking behind their guide, Lily Becker, a rising senior. I was there too - Peter, California, journalism.

Campus Voices: Seals abusing his NU title 4

The Daily Northwestern, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

2 hours ago by James D'Angelo and Will Upton

As members of the Associated Student Government, we are disappointed that Dan Seals, candidate for the 10th Congressional District in Illinois, has jeopardized the academic reputation of Northwestern. For the past three years, Seals has been a congressional candidate - first in 2006 and now for the 2008 election.

Pitchforked: one writer's take on the indie music darling 4

The Daily Northwestern, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

11 hours ago by Brown, S. Paul

My expectations for this year's Pitchfork Music Festival were not incredibly high. Though the lineup was fairly solid, it seemed uninspired - an expected blend of the latest hype bands and festival stalwarts. Still, I couldn't miss an opportunity to mingle with the great hipster masses and sip on tasty Goose Island beer.

Tamms Year Ten calls for end to torture 3

The Daily Northwestern, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

49 minutes ago by Abby Lerner

Ten years ago the first group of inmates deemed the worst-of-the-worst were transferred from Illinois prisons to the Tamms Closed Maximum Security facility. At Tamms, they spend 23 hours a day in an 8ft-by-12ft concrete cell: alone to eat, sleep, urinate, defecate, and wonder how long they would stay sane.

Lake Street Church 2

The Daily Northwestern, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

1 hour ago by Goodwin, Kathleen

Its blue steeple and prominent stained glass windows may be staples of Christian churches, but something is different about the atmosphere of Lake Street Church. On Sundays, people trickle in wearing suits, soccer uniforms, jeans and choir robes. And the outfits are not half as diverse as the people: During the last ten years, the church has brought together atheists, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, agnostics and Christians.

Apparently, Billy Ray Cyrus didn't make enough money being a second rate country musician and TV star. If a guest appearance on "Diagnosis Murder" is the pinnacle of your career, you probably aren't rolling in dough. However, Billy Ray Cyrus does have a tremendous talent.
