As members of the Associated Student Government, we are disappointed that Dan Seals, candidate for the 10th Congressional District in Illinois, has jeopardized the academic reputation of Northwestern. For the past three years, Seals has been a congressional candidate - first in 2006 and now for the 2008 election.

My expectations for this year's Pitchfork Music Festival were not incredibly high. Though the lineup was fairly solid, it seemed uninspired - an expected blend of the latest hype bands and festival stalwarts. Still, I couldn't miss an opportunity to mingle with the great hipster masses and sip on tasty Goose Island beer.

Ten years ago the first group of inmates deemed the worst-of-the-worst were transferred from Illinois prisons to the Tamms Closed Maximum Security facility. At Tamms, they spend 23 hours a day in an 8ft-by-12ft concrete cell: alone to eat, sleep, urinate, defecate, and wonder how long they would stay sane.

Its blue steeple and prominent stained glass windows may be staples of Christian churches, but something is different about the atmosphere of Lake Street Church. On Sundays, people trickle in wearing suits, soccer uniforms, jeans and choir robes. And the outfits are not half as diverse as the people: During the last ten years, the church has brought together atheists, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, agnostics and Christians.

Beginning in January 2009, the University of Illinois at Chicago campus will officially have Dr. Paula Allen-Meares as its new chancellor. Allen-Meares, who was selected from a field of more than 100 candidates, is set to be formally confirmed as the new chancellor at the next Board of Trustees meeting.

One of the more frustrating things about being a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago is the lack of community at our school. We all have friends on campus and at home that we can enjoy life with, but if we are honest with ourselves we will acknowledge that it is difficult to meet people at this university because a wide majority of students treat it as if it were a giant community college.
